Gaston

Gaston is the antagonist in the story. He is rude, narcisitic and conceited; and spends all of his time huniting and drinking. All the townspeople love him and treat him like a hero. He wants to marry Belle because she's the most beauitful woman in town, but she always refuses him because she isn't so shallow. Gaston stages a wedding to try and pressure her into marrying him, but she throws him out of her house and humilates him in front of the town. Angered, Gaston then tries to force Belle to marry him by threatening to have her father locked away in an insane asylum after Belle's father Maurice tells everyone that she is being held captive by a hideous Beast. Belle tries to win her father's freedom by proving the existance of the Beast, but no one beleives her when she tells them that the Beast is actually gentle and kind. Jelouse of Belle's feelings for the Beast and angered that his plan didn't work, Gaston raises a mob of townspeople to storm the Beast's castle and kill everyone within.
